This half-day workshop was organized as a pre-conference session. The instructors of the workshop were Dr. Vijay Pal Singh from CSIR-Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology, India and Dr. Tharanga Thoradeniya from University of Colombo, Sri Lanka. A total of 54 participants attended the workshop. Majority of the participants were IACUC members from various institutions, as well as lab animal veterinarians, animal welfare experts, and researchers/scientists. The aim of the workshop was to provide knowledge on Harm Benefit analysis methods in performing ethics review on biomedical research involving laboratory animals. The workshop was very interactive consisted of considerations on animal model selection, issues in statistical and methodological aspects of animal experiment, a step-by-step training on conducing ethics analysis based on harm vs. benefit, and case scenario discussion. The workshop consisted of both class-room session by the instructor as well as group discussion and presentations.
